The war in Gaza is rapidly deteriorating into a humanitarian crisis with no signs of easing. It is no longer a geopolitical crisis and innocent lives continue to be lost.
We ask the New Zealand Government to demonstrate the same sense of fairness and urgency it has shown to previous international geopolitical crises and make every effort to get the parties to commit to an immediate ceasefire and help prevent the loss further lives. We urge our government to take a leadership role to get a humanitarian aid corridor opened into Gaza so that the desperate citizens can get access to essential supplies.
We also ask our local media to take an objective and balanced approach to reporting this crisis, as every effort should be made to avoid escalating the current situation.
